Remembering John Bucci: A Leader Who Made a Lasting Impact on Our Community
I was filled with great sadness when I heard the news of the passing of my dear friend, John Bucci. John was a leader in our community and a shining example of being the best version of oneself in whatever role you are in.
Affectionately known as "Mr. Bucci," back in the day, John was the owner of a popular deli that he ran alongside his teenage sons, Mike and Tommy. Even after selling the deli and entering semi-retirement, John's passion for the business never wavered. When his sons Mike and Tommy opened a new deli, he eagerly jumped in to lend a hand and play a starring role.
The Bucci Brothers Deli was more than just a place to grab a meal; it was a vital part of our community. The who's who of Mahopac and Carmel would always be at the tables enjoying an Italian Combo or some other delicious creation from the kitchen. Bucci Brothers Deli not only served up delicious deli fare, they also offered a selection of Italian and Irish imports, plus an extensive catering menu. As the owner of a real estate company, I frequently turned to them for office meetings, open houses, and events, appreciating the quality of their food, the warmth of their service, and most of all, their friendship.
What set John apart was his ability to make everyone feel special. Every visit to the deli turned into a delightful encounter, as he showered me with compliments, genuine interest in my life and work, and always sneaking some extra goodies into my bag.
John's talent for making fresh mozzarella was legendary, and he generously shared his knowledge through private lessons. He was a successful businessman and a prominent figure in our community. His absence will be deeply felt by all who know him.
In addition to his professional achievements, John leaves behind a beautiful family. His two successful sons Mike and Tommy, along with their wonderful wives and adoring grandchildren, are a testament to the love and guidance he provided. He leaves behind a legacy of passionate service and leadership, with a smile always on his face.
A good community food and beverage business assumes a multifaceted leadership role within the community. By sourcing locally, these businesses bolster the economy and create jobs, acting as an economic catalyst. Their establishment becomes a gathering place, fostering unity. They promote community consciousness by providing culturally diverse, local and traditional offerings. Essentially, they play the role of community influencers, enriching lives on various levels.
John Bucci exemplified that role.
The loss of John Bucci is a significant one for our community. The impact he made will be cherished forever. To the Bucci family, we thank you for all that you have done for our county and I offer my heartfelt condolences during this difficult time.
