I am beyond grateful to have had the experience of taking my 3.5-year-old granddaughter, Zendaya, ice skating for the 1st time. This moment was rich in bonding and love, bringing to light the courage and determination inherent in children, which is precisely the approach needed to pursue success in any field as an adult.
Seneca, aptly said, "It is not because things are difficult that we do not dare; it is because we do not dare that things are difficult." This sentiment perfectly encapsulates the courage required to be the best version of yourself in all you do. Just like Zendaya, who faced the ice (without anything but my hand to hold) with a mix of fear, self-doubt, bravery, and determination, we often confront challenges without the aid of anything to hold on to, and It's in these moments that the true heart of a champion is revealed as it was so evident in Zendaya.
Having the heart of a champion is not just about winning but about the effort, the striving, and the willingness to persist in the face of fear, limiting beliefs, and self-doubt. At 53, I live by this philosophy, infusing it into my coaching and life strategy practices. Just as I once cried on the pitcher's mound, driven by a relentless passion to do well, I see the same fire in Zendaya. It's a vivid reminder that whether on the ice or in business, it's not just skill but heart, courage, and resilience that define success.
My granddaughters' first ice skating experience is a beautiful reminder for all entrepreneurs, business leaders, and human beings. It reminds us that the journey to mastery, whether in skating or business, is often unaided, requiring us to face our fears and find balance through sheer determination and courage. I am immensely grateful to live this truth and to share it with Zendaya, a budding champion in her own right.
