However, there were a few who chose a different path. They adapted, just as I did during my 28-year real estate career. I remember I had just launched my brokerage in 2007, and one day, the phone just stopped ringing. Instead of surrendering to adversity, I shifted my strategy. I looked at my sphere and realized my people were business owners and elected officials, not buying and selling residential real estate. So, I started focusing on commercial and investment real estate. Diversifying my book of business in this manner proved to not only get me through the market crash but to be the best decision in my entire career. It was resilience and flexibility that helped me thrive in the face of adversity and rise above the challenge of the biggest market crash since the 1980s.
Many industries have undergone significant transformation in recent years with the advent of digital technologies and online platforms. Those who resist change find themselves falling behind. However, those, including myself, who recognize the need to evolve and are investing time and effort in learning how to leverage digital tools are not only surviving but are growing in this changing landscape.
